HARBOUR - hard ground, aquatint; 15 x 20cm

Industry and nature seem to co-exist in the surrounding of the harbour: pipelines and trees are part of the landscape. Light does not make a distinction between them. That's the way I like to approach a place and reveal its appearance. The elements are interwoven by playful shades of light.

DIZZY HEIGHTS - hard ground, aquatint; 18 x 24cm

The height of the huge church building is hard to capture. The walls seem to lose track when one's eyes reach for the ceiling. The only way to grasp space is by paying attention to the walls that surround it - high and even higher - although the heighth itself is immaterial.

The etching is available within the artist map 'Laurens 500' at Grafisch Atelier Alkmaar.

DOUBT SWINGS - hard ground, sugar aquatint, drypoint, monotype, 24 x 34,5 cm

Being in doubt is like swinging between sides. It is a condition often underrated or neglected in the creative process of reality.  Actually it is a crossroad where present and future meet. A valuable zone of possible shapes coming into being (or not).

The work can stand on it's own or be presented in duo:

BEING tHERE - vernis mou, drypoint, monotype, 24 x 18 cm

A number of images created during a residency at GAA, Alkmaar, the Netherlands. These prints are the result of a research on perception. I explored to what degree my memory corresponded to reality. As I had visited Alkmaar before I carried a first impression of the environment in my imagination. Going back to Alkmaar challenged me to confront this impression with a second experience of the place.

The works can stand on their own or be presented as a series of variations.

LANDSCAPE - vernis mou and monotype, 118 x 78 cm, collage, mounted on aluminium
Three experiences of a landscape, combined in one image.

The starting point for this image was a journey in Sweden. I stayed at a place 'in the middle of nowhere'. At first sight the landscape seemed very unparticular, boring even. After a couple of days - by walking within the landscape, remarking the smells, the sky, the animals - it became more special. This image shows how I experienced the landscape during my stay: it is a collage of three versions of the landscape, each one emphasizing another element as it attracted my attention. The image shows how the landscape impressed me and the way it is still alive in my memory.
